Starting in 2015, riverrun provides annual liberal arts fellowships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students at SUNY Buffalo, Buffalo State College, D’Youville College, and to students and others at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library. Additional fellowships will follow.
In commencing this award, riverrun recognizes the special value of liberal arts education in fostering full and self-aware lives and healthy communities. Liberal arts education connects disciplines, connects the abstract and the personal, the personal and the social. It develops engaged citizens and a true appreciation of fellow citizens. It is essential to critical thinking and to lifelong learning. riverrun fellowships recognize the critical value of liberal arts education to public life and encourage recipients to become lifelong public educators.
